Slayers 2 Fishing Guide: Permit, Rods and the Legendary Rod

Fishing looks like a side activity, but midnyte (September 20) points out it is one of the steadiest sources of ores, Refinement Ore, Metal Scraps and the Shotgun schematic. This guide follows his run, checked against the in-game text quoted on the community wiki.

Getting started (level 45)

1. Talk to Dock Master Sofen at the docks. He sends you to fetch a fishing permit from a nearby house and bring it back.
2. With the permit, buy the basic rod from Fisherman Jeso for 3,500 Wen.
3. Cast, then keep the catch marker in the green zone until the meter reaches 100%.

The Rare Fishing Rod

The basic rod mostly catches commons. The upgrade costs 5 Golden Fish and 10,000 Wen at Jeso. Golden Fish are rare (midnyte estimates under 1% per catch; he fished for about six hours to get five). The Archives list the Rare Fishing Rod as:

Source line: “Sold by Fisherman Jeso”, described as “a better built rod earned with Golden Fish”.

Bait and side quests

• Angler Runo takes fish for quests at different rarity levels.
• Bait Monger Nori in the Hidden Mist Village sells better bait (fish heads) once you finish Chiori’s quest at the Butterfly Estate: bring her 10 health elixirs, 10 health regen elixirs and 10 stamina elixirs. The elixirs are sold at Mistfall Harbor for Demon Horns (midnyte needed about 60 horns for all thirty); see where to farm horns.

The Legendary Fishing Rod

1. Buy the tip. With the Rare rod, Dock Master Sofen sells information for 2,500 Wen. He talks about a dead fisherman, Isao, who fished “up the gorge beside the red bridge”, “on the rock ledge across from the water sprout” (his lines as quoted on the community wiki).
2. Fish his spot. There is only one red bridge next to a water spout. Stand on the rock ledge opposite the spout and fish until you catch the Drowned Lure (midnyte needed 10-20 minutes). The wiki quotes Fisherman Jeso on Isao’s habits: five casts in one spot, never a sixth, often with a bare hook.
3. Wait for the ghost. On a later night Isao’s ghost appears and points you further down the river, to a ledge with a tree past the red bridge. Get there by running past the bridge and double-jumping the wall behind the house.
4. Fish the tree ledge with the Rare rod and the Drowned Lure equipped until the Legendary rod event triggers.

midnyte reads the Legendary rod as 3x bite speed, a 60% bigger cast radius, 95% catch chance and 0.5 Fish Luck, and notes the Drowned Lure never runs out, unlike other bait. Rods can also be enhanced like weapons if you have Refinement Ore.

Why bother

Fishing feeds the forge. The ores and Metal Scraps it produces are what every V2 and Nightfall recipe needs; see crafting.
